Spain World Cup winner Jennifer Hermoso has released a statement contradicting RFEF president Luis Rubiales.
Rubiales has faced calls to resign following his actions at the women’s World Cup final where he appeared to kiss Hermoso after grabbing his crotch at full time.
Rubiales has since said he ‘will not resign’ in a statement applauded by women’s manager Jorge Vilda and men’s manager Luis de la Fuente.
He also said that Hermoso ‘lifted her up’ and said ‘OK’ to a ‘little peck’.
Responding to those words, Hermoso released a statement signed by 53 teammates, which read: “I want to clarify that, as seen in the images, at no time did I consent to the kiss he planted on me and, of course, in no way did I seek to lift up the president. I do not tolerate my word being questioned and let alone invent words I didn’t say.
“We want to end this statement, asking for real changes, both sporting and structural, that help the Absolute Selection to continue growing, to be able to transfer this great success to later generations. We are filled with sadness that such an unacceptable fact is managing to understand the greatest sporting success of Spanish women’s football.”
