FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With Miami Beach implementing its break-up with spring breakers by way of new regulations and a curfew, many decided to head north to Fort Lauderdale.
That’s where things feel more like what a Miami Beach spring break has looked like in the past, along with some of trouble as well.
Things have appeared more calm on Miami Beach this year as Spring Break fun seems to have migrated to Broward County.
“We want to say we thank you for shutting Miami down so we could come to this lovely place over here,” said Jy’meria Franklin, visiting from Orlando.
Many of the people partying in Fort Lauderdale told Local 10 News’ Samiar Nefzi they originally planned for a Miami Beach spring break, but the new safety measures on South Beach changed that.
“They broke up with us, so we had to slide down to Fort Lauderdale,” said Kephene Wash, visiting from Tampa.
It would appear Fort Lauderdale also inherited the woes Miami Beach officials feared, with officials announcing several arrests.
According to Fort Lauderdale police, there have been at least ten Spring Break-related arrests, two of which involved visitors from out of town between March 4 and March 12.
The crimes ranged from disorderly conduct to drug-related offenses and battery on an officer.
Overall it’s quite a different feel than Miami Beach, as there is not a curfew in Fort Lauderdale.
