Google has just made it a lot easier for Android users of its Gmail app to delete older and unwanted emails. The latest version of the Gmail app for Android allows users to select up to 50 emails at once with just a single click.

First reported by 9to5Google, this handy feature is available to users with Gmail Android version 2023.08.20.561750975. Currently, it is accessible for Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphone users running Android 13 or 14, with the expectation that it will roll out to many more devices in the coming days.

Although the feature is labelled “select all,” it actually checks the first 50 emails in the Gmail Android app. Users also have the option to uncheck specific emails if needed. It’s worth noting that a similar feature has been available on the desktop version for some time, and now it’s finally available on the Android app.

This feature is particularly important for those on the free tier of a Google account, which offers only 15 GB of free storage. Emails, much like photos and videos, occupy space in the allocated cloud storage quota. When the storage is full, Gmail may fail to display or download new emails. By deleting older emails, users can free up storage space to accommodate newer ones.

Google recently ceased offering unlimited storage for Google Photos, and users who back up their multimedia on Google Photos can quickly consume their 15 GB data limit.
