Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo mental health

HOUSTON — After some time away from her demanding schedule to seek mental health treatment, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has shared her plans to return to the bench.

Hidalgo was first elected as Harris County judge in 2018. She won reelection in 2022. According to the Harris County website, she is the first woman to be elected County Judge and only the second to be elected to the Commissioners Court.

Thirty-two-year-old Hidalgo admitted herself into an inpatient facility in late July. She revealed she was diagnosed with clinical depression last month.

“My experience has been difficult, but I am taking it as an opportunity to be open about my own struggle, my own challenges, and to encourage others, who need help, to seek treatment,” Hidalgo said in a letter on Aug. 7.

Hidalgo updated everyone on her well-being on Thursday afternoon, and stated that she’s excited about discharging this Saturday. According to her latest letter, she feels great and ready to get back to her normal schedule. She is currently slated to return to work on Oct. 2.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is one of many people that has come out to support Hidalgo and her mental health.

Because of this, Hidalgo doesn’t feel alone in her mental fight. When released from impatient care, she’ll be staring outpatient care.
