Headlines and heroes for Week 7 of high school football |

It was a big week for Progressland football teams as five of the six area squads were victorious. And the only one that wasn’t happened to be playing another team from the area.

Clearfield won a battle of Laurel Highlands Conference front-runners as the once-beaten Bison knocked off previously undefeated Bald Eagle Area 13-7 with some fourth-quarter heroics.

Also winning by virtue of a gutty performance down the stretch was Philipsburg-Osceola, which brought the Luther Trophy back home for the first time in a decade with a 14-13 thriller over Bellefonte.

Glendale, Moshannon Valley and West Branch each won Inter County Conference matchups and improved their chances for the postseason with the victories.

The Vikings hammered Claysburg-Kimmel 34-7, the Warriors routed Southern Huntingdon 54-12 and the Black Knights turned back the Golden Tide 34-7.

Top Quarterbacks

1. Moshannon Valley’s Jalen Kurten needed just five completions (on nine attempts) to throw for 179 yards and a TD in the Knights’ win over Curwensville.

2. West Branch’s Tyler Biggans connected on 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 160 yards, hitting Azadio Vargas for a 15-yard touchdown and tossing a 9-yard scoring strike to Wyatt Schwiderske.
