Glendale and West Branch won the head-to-head Progressland battles in Week 9, both on the road.

The Warriors upended Moshannon Valley 34-12 to switch places with them in the District 6 class A playoff rankings, swapping sixth position for fifth. Both teams are now 5-4 this season.

The Vikings took down Curwensville 30-8 to improve to 3-6 and keep slim playoff hopes alive. The Tide fell to 1-8.

Clearfield dropped its second straight road decision to an unbeaten team, once again by just one possession. The Bison slipped to 6-3 with its 27-21 loss at Central.

And Philipsburg-Osceola fell in its second consecutive Saturday road game, dropping a 22-7 score to Bishop Guilfoyle to slip to 3-6 and being officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Top Quarterbacks

1. Warrior signal caller Tyler Biggans did it with his arm and his legs against the Knights. He threw for 197 yards and a TD, while running the ball for 98 yards and three more scores (2, 7 and 27).

2. Glendale’s Logan Skebeck completed 12 of his 19 attempts for 164 yards and four touchdown tosses to three different players in the Vikings win.

Top Rushing Leaders

1. Mountie Sam McDonald was the only area running back to top the 100-yard mark as he carried 10 times for 111 yards in the loss to Guilfoyle.

2. Mo Valley’s Rocco Reifer busted off a 58-yard touchdown run on the Knights’ second play from scrimmage and finished with 80 yards on just seven carries.

3. Curwensville’s Sammy Gustafson racked up 82 yards on 13 totes in the Tide’s loss to Glendale.

Top Aerial Performances

1. West Branch’s Wyatt Schwiderke caught three passes for 93 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown for the Warriors.

2. Clearfield’s Carter Freeland led the area in receptions with five. He added a 3-yard TD catch and had 33 yards receiving.

3. Glendale’s JJ Kitko recorded just three catches for 41 yards, but he made the most of them with TD receptions of 21 and 4 yards.

Big Plays

1. Skebeck hit Connor Potutschnig for a 53-yard touchdown pass with just 1:06 left in the second quarter to give the visiting Vikings all the momentum and a big 24-0 halftime lead going into the half.

2. West Branch’s Nick Stavola returned the second half kickoff 37 yards to set the Warriors up on the Knight 40. Five plays later, West Branch scored on a 27-yard Biggans run and the Warriors seized control 27-6 with 8:50 left in the third.

Stat/Fact of the week

Moshannon Valley had scoring plays of 58 and 46 yards against the Warriors and also had a 37-yard run. But the Knights’ other 33 offensive plays totaled just 52 yards as Mo Valley went three-and-out on three drives, four-and-out on a fourth, and threw an interception on another as it had just two first downs on its final seven possessions.
