The Lawrence County Health Department opened in their new location in February of this year.

They are still putting the finishing touches on the building and a pharmacy will be added in four months.

The building at ,2101 James St., was formerly the United Methodist Village, North Campus for many years prior to LCHD.

Children and adults can also receive immunizations at the LCHD.

ERBA is also inside the LCHD. ERBA gives assistance with utility bills as well as other needs in the community.

A new addition to LCHD is a community room that is now a warming center.

The center is open to anyone, everyday.

The room has laundry, hot showers, internet and phone use as well as light refreshments.

LCHD held an open house, Wednesday and the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the beginning of the event.

Health department officials and board members were on hand as well as chamber members and supporters for the ribbon cutting.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were available for free photos and there were many swag giveaways such as t-shirts, lip balm, stress balls and hand sanitizer for guests.

Refreshments and drinks were available at different locations throughout the building.

Officials and guest walked the halls as they toured the building and were able to take part in the Festival of Trees.

Decorated Christmas trees were placed in the hallways and were sponsored by local businesses.

Wednesday evening was People’s Choice.

Guests could place canned food in boxes by each tree to vote on their favorite.

An online auction is also being held through Parrott Real Estate.

All proceeds from the Festival of Trees will go to the winning tree who will give it to the charity they chose.

Up for grabs is the tree and the decorations on it.
