The next part of the Resident Evil horror series from Capcom has not yet been officially confirmed, but thanks to insider AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem), gamers have already learned one of its main features.
By words AestheticGamer, Capcom regularly approves new initiatives in groups of three. The insider gave two examples:
- Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 were approved almost simultaneously and became the publisher’s first games on the then new RE Engine;
- in turn, the idea of an updated Resident Evil 2 inspired Capcom to release remakes of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4.
Released on March 22, the fantasy action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 is also based on the RE Engine, but, unlike previous games based on this technology, it offers an entire open world to explore.
According to AestheticGamer, these enhanced RE Engine capabilities are being used to power two other upcoming Capcom games – fantasy hunting action Monster Hunter Wilds and the unannounced Resident Evil 9.
The insider added that, despite the open world, the games will retain their identity: “DD2 is still Dragon’s Dogma, Wilds will remain Monster Hunter. The same is true for RE9 with Resident Evil.”.
Dusk Golem talked about Capcom preparing Resident Evil 9 last summer: according to the informant, the game could be presented during 2024 and released as early as 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds was announced in December at The Game Awards 2023. Release is expected in 2025 on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Promise “the world of exciting hunting on a completely different level”.
