Instagram is testing an X-like feed that will only show posts from verified accounts

New Delhi,UPDATED: Oct 24, 2023 13:54 IST

Meta is exploring new ways to lift up its paid verified users. In a recent announcement, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the company is testing a new feed option that will show users posts only from verified users. This means that users will be able to see posts from their favourite celebrities, influencers, and brands without having to scroll through their entire feed.

The new feed option is part of Instagram’s Meta Verified subscription service, which authenticates users’ identities and gives them access to other perks, such as priority customer support and exclusive stickers. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the new feed option is a way for businesses and creators to get discovered.

“We’re testing a way for people to explore their Instagram feed and reels by toggling to only Meta Verified accounts. We’re exploring this as a new control for people and a way for businesses and creators to get discovered. Let us know if you’d be interested in using this,” said Mosseri in a message on his Instagram broadcast channel.

Mosseri also shared a screenshot of how the new feed option will look. According to the photo, the option named “Meta Verified” will appear under “Following” and “Favorites” when users tap the Instagram logo.

The new Meta Verified feature will not only allow normal users to keep track of content from verified users, but it will also be more focused as a perk to make users by the Meta verified tag. This could make paying for Meta Verified, which costs $11.99 on the web or $14.99 in an app, a more attractive proposition for businesses and creators who want to be seen by more people.

Mosseri revealed that Instagram is testing a new feed for verified users and has asked users to “let us know if you’d be interested in using this.” However, he didn’t share any details about the test, such as its size or eligibility criteria.

In case you are unaware, Meta Verified is a paid subscription program for Instagram and Facebook that the company launched earlier this year. The paid service offers subscribers a blue verification checkmark, better customer support, and protection from impersonation. Meta started testing the program in Australia and New Zealand, then expanded it to the US and businesses. It was then launched in the United Kingdom, Canada, India, and most markets around the world in the spring of 2023.
