Ireland’s airports announce bumper winter schedules – but which is cheapest for mid-term parking?

The country’s airports continue to bounce back post-pandemic with increased winter schedules

Highlights include new weekly winter Ryanair flights to Lanzarote and Tenerife.

Ryanair will also continue its summer service to Malaga through the winter months, while Aer Lingus has a new daily service to London Heathrow.

The Knock airport’s other winter destinations are Ryanair services to Birmingham, East-Midlands, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London Luton, London Stansted and Manchester.

The winter schedule follows a record summer season with 102,000 passengers passing through in August, the busiest month in Ireland West’s 38 years.

The news follows bumper winter schedule announcements at Cork and Shannon airports, which have also been bouncing back post-pandemic.

Ryanair will operate five new winter routes from Cork to Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Paris (Beauvais), Seville and Treviso, while Aer Lingus has a new route to Lyon scheduled from December 23 to the end of March.

Shannon’s schedule includes its first winter services to Faro and Liverpool, daily transatlantic flights to New York (JFK) and Boston, and over 200 extra flights over the mid-term, Christmas and Easter holiday periods.

Dublin Airport is also lining up a busy winter schedule, although Ryanair has said it will cut its services by 10pc (or 17 routes) from the airport.

While the country’s main airport offers a far wider choice of destinations, and handles many multiples of the passenger numbers of Ireland’s regional airports, its parking can also be more expensive.

Seven days parking over the coming mid-term break at Ireland West, for example, is priced at €46 online in a car park a short walk from the terminal.

Dublin Airport’s parking rates for the same October 28-November 4 period start at €97.50 in its Holiday Blue long-term car park, a 15-minute bus transfer from the terminals. Its short-term parking is priced at €170 for the mid-term break online.

Similar rates at Shannon Airport range from €45-€168, depending on the car park booked, but Cork Airport currently provides the cheapest mid-term parking… by a whisker.

Its Holiday Blue long-term car park costs €42.50 from October 28-November 4, with other long-term and short-term options costing €55 and €119 respectively.
