Israel-Gaza latest: Hundreds of police officers descend on London for protests; IDF sacks senior staff over aid worker killings | World News

Sky News’ Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall has been giving his analysis on the IDF’s report this evening.

He was at a briefing of journalists last night ahead of the publication of the report earlier today.

“We were shown some of the drone video, but not all of it,” he says.

“And in my opinion, we didn’t see the crucial moment when the misinterpretation was made, when the individual getting into the vehicle was misidentified as a Hamas gunman.”

However Bunkall notes that the Israeli military “appears to be taking this seriously”.

“I think the fact they have sacked a number of senior officers and reprimanded some very senior commanders is evidence of that,” he says

“But I think, for a lot of people, this has exposed failings in the IDF operating procedures and rules of engagement.”

Earlier, IDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner was questioned on Sky News on whether the footage had been shown to journalists.

“I think we did actually reveal to the journalists yesterday extensive footage, several minutes of this incident, showing what appears to be potentially a gunman going into the vehicle,” he said.

“I wasn’t in the briefing yesterday, but, from what I understand, the video was shown that has indeed got gunmen identified in and around and approaching the vehicles.”
