Jawan box office collection day 21: Shah Rukh Khan’s dominance over the 2023 box office continues, with Jawan now just days away from passing Pathaan’s worldwide record.
After having broken all kinds of box office records that a Bollywood film could, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is on track to pass the final frontier and become the second-biggest Hindi movie of all time at the global box office. The action film had a minor day-to-day gain on Wednesday, when it made Rs 5.1 crore in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This is a Rs 20 lakh increase over Tuesday’s figures.
Jawan has now made Rs 576 crore nett in India, across all languages, having surpassed the all-time record set by Pathaan some months ago. This means that Shah Rukh is now responsible for over Rs 1000 crore at the domestic box office in one year, in addition to having delivered two of Bollywood’s biggest-ever hits back to back. Pathaan ended its domestic theatrical run with Rs 543 crore, which Jawan passed some days ago, as it charges toward the Rs 600 crore mark. The film’s run will likely be boosted by a buy-one-get-one free offer that Red Chillies announced on Tuesday.

While Jawan will probably overtake Pathaan’s worldwide gross in the next few days, it will not be able to pass Dangal’s Rs 2000 crore lifetime global gross. Most of Dangal’s earnings came from China, where Jawan didn’t release. The film, directed by Atlee, is just around Rs 28 crore shy of passing Pathaan’s Rs 1050 record. According to Sacnilk, the film’s Hindi version registered a 14% occupancy on day 21 of release, while the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions registered 21% and 16% occupancy, respectively, despite limited shows.
Combined, Jawan and Pathaan have grossed over Rs 2000 crore globally, making Shah Rukh the only Bollywood star to deliever two $100 million-plus grossers in one year. The films have also contributed to the long-awaited resurgence of Bollywood after more than two years in the doldrums. Gadar 2 also delivered record-setting numbers just a few weeks before Jawan’s debut, and has currently made more than Rs 520 crore domestically. Additionally, the romantic dramas Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Satyaprem Ki Katha and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also did solid business.
