Kolkata: The only team to have maintained a perfect record in the Indian Super League campaign so far, Mohun Bagan SG resume action in the league with a trip to Jamshedpur FC on Wednesday, amid concerns if they would be able to maintain momentum after a lengthy break. The last match for Juan Ferrando’s side was back on October 7, when they emerged 3-1 winners at Chennaiyin FC for their third victory on the trot. The following international break and the abandoned October 28 derby means it could be a whole new ball game for the green-and-maroon brigade. They played out a 2-2 draw with Basundhara Kings in the AFC Cup last Tuesday. Ferrando insisted before leaving for Jamshedpur that the lengthy break wouldn’t be a problem. “The break was good for the players as it gives us time to prepare for the match. The players of course also enjoyed being with the national team and we worked with others during that time. We are focusing on the Jamshedpur game and also the next AFC Cup match (at Bashundhara Kings on November 7),” Bagan’s Spanish coach said. Interestingly, Jamshedpur hold a better record against their fancied visitors on head-to-head count, having won four and lost 2 in their 7 meetings in the ISL. Ferrando has strengthened his team with more firepower upfront, with the likes of Jason Cummings and Dimitri Petratos already being in the thick of action. Jamshedpur FC, lying seventh, are coming into the match with a 1-2 loss to NEUFC during which they conceded twice in the stoppage times. Yet, the match at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Wednesday may turn out to be a clash of styles given that Scott Cooper’s hosts are expected to rely heavily on a defensive discipline to tackle Ferrando’s side. “They play a certain way where it’s difficult to beat them. They are very compact, so we need to be ready in controlling spaces as well as finding the right moments to attack them,” Ferrando said of his opponents.
