Kansas Business Expo aims to accelerate growth, economic impact of business community

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Business Expo aims to accelerate growth and economic impact of the business community.

Kansas Chamber officials said on Monday, Feb. 5, they announced the consolidation of two events aimed at enhancing business dynamics within the state. Effective immediately, the Kansas Minority Business Summit and the Kansas Workforce Development and Education Summit will be united under the banner of the Kansas Business Expo.

Officials with Kansas Chamber indicated the Kansas Chamber President & CEO Alan Cobb said the Expo promises insightful perspective and actionable strategies for business growth and development.

“The 2024 Kansas Business Expo isn’t just an event, it’s a catalyst that will help accelerate the growth and economic impact of our state’s business community ‚” Cobb said. “We’re bringing together established leaders and next-gen business innovators, diverse perspectives, and shared ambitions, all under one roof. By merging the Minority Business Summit and the Workforce Development & Education Summit, we’re breaking down barriers and helping unlock Kansas business leaders’ potential.”

Officials with Kansas Chamber said the Expo will feature keynote speakers former U.S. Marine and Founder of Think GREAT Erik Therwanger and accomplished entrepreneur and business leader Jennifer McDonald (SHRM-CP, MAB).

According to the Kansas Chamber, McDonald is a Human Resources and Talent Acquisition Leader as well as a Founder, CEO and Winemaker. She spent 17 years leading strategic initiatives for some of Wichita’s largest employers and has leveraged her business acumen and leadership skills from the corporate world into the wine industry. She has a master’s degree in Agribusiness from Kansas State University. Currently, she is working on a new wine concept, JDC Wine Company.

Kansas Chamber officials said Therwanger is the founder of Think GREAT and draws from his experiences as a U.S. Marine, executive business leader, sales professional, and entrepreneur to help organizations achieve new levels of success. He uniquely combines leadership development, team building, sales training, and goal-setting into strategies and techniques that empower team members and leaders to exceed expectations.

Chamber officials said the Expo also will feature breakout sessions, subject experts and panel discussions. Subjects topping the agenda include:

  • Workforce & Small Business Regulation Updates
  • How to expand into International Sales
  • Recruiting Trends & Retaining Workers
  • Cyber Security
  • Building partnership with Kansas Educators & Schools
  • Securing finances for business expansion

Chamber officials said exhibitor booths are available for organizations offering services tailored to the Kansas workforce and small businesses.

Kansas Chamber officials noted the Kansas Business Expo is Thursday, April 4 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Lawrence, KS.
