Pop sensation Lorde looked nearly unrecognizable after undergoing a dramatic hair transformation.
While she is known for her signature dark, wavy locks, an eagle-eyed fan managed to spot the Tennis Court hitmaker, 26, with her new bright blonde locks as she rode the subway earlier this week.
For her laid-back outing, the two-time Grammy winner (Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor) attempted to go incognito while rocking a green graphic t-shirt tucked unto her white pants and a surgical mask, worn under her chin.
She styled her wavy locks into two braids and wore a pair of white headphones as she used the Big Apple’s famous public transportation to commute around.
After a fan requested a selfie with her, Lorde sweetly agreed.
Later, the fan, who goes by the Twitter handle @snarkilytm, uploaded the snap of them together and another of the musician from the side.
Last month, the Kiwi singer shared a distressing open letter with her fans, revealing she was suffering from a personal ‘heartbreak.’
The performer shared a newsletter titled ‘How I’ve Been, Revised’ with subscribers, hinting at relationship troubles with her long-term boyfriend Justin Warren.
‘I’m different but the same. I ache all the time, I forget why and then remember. I’m not trying to hide the pain, I understand pain isn’t something to hide,’ she began.
The The New Zealand native continued: ‘There’s actually great beauty in moving with it. But sometimes I’m sick of being with myself.’
Lorde then said she wished she could turn back the clock and she had stopped taking her medication.
‘I sit in the time machine and wait for it to move, but it hasn’t been invented yet. The little yellow pill I took every morning for thousands of mornings since I was 15, I stopped taking it 5 days ago. Gonna see how it goes.’
While her distressing letter did not explicitly mention relationship troubles with her music executive boyfriend Justin Warren, fans have been quick to speculate this is what she was alluding to.
Lorde is known for being notoriously private and has only made two posts on Instagram since joining the website two years ago.
In October 2021, Lorde, who was born Ella Yelich-O’Connor, sparked rumours she was engaged to her boyfriend Justin Warren, as she attended a red carpet event with a diamond ring on her ring finger.
The pop star showed off a stunning diamond sparkler at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles.
Lorde and Justin were first photographed frolicking on the beach together in 2016, but at the time Justin dismissed rumors they were dating.
But in the years since, they have toured the world together and Justin has even been spotted near the songstress’ $2.8million villa.
Lorde, who is known for her friendship with Taylor Swift, split from her former boyfriend James Lowe at the end of 2015.
She told Stellar magazine in June 2017 the break-up took her to some ‘crazy places’ and she resorted to ‘self-medicating’ to cope with her emotions.
But in the years since, they have toured the world together and Justin has even been spotted near the songstress’ $2.8million villa.
