M3 and M25 latest travel news as Surrey wakes up to snow and ice – RECAP

On Friday (February 1) the M3 was “impassable” in both directions due to heavy snowfall.

There was stationary traffic as lorries struggled on the inclines and there were several reports that traffic was “hardly moving” or “stationary”.

It took some commuters up to five hours to get home from work on Friday evening.

As Surrey wakes up to another day of snow, Surrey Live will be bringing you all the latest traffic and travel updates plus advice for coping in the icy conditions.

We will be back first thing in the morning with all the latest news, traffic and weather in Surrey.

Take care if you are out and about this evening and wrap up warm, it’s set to be FREEZZZZZING and very icy.

Tonight’s weather

Icy stretches will be the main hazard this evening, overnight and tomorrow morning, the Met Office has said.

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for Surrey from 4pm on Saturday until 11am on Sunday.

Temperatures will fall rapidly (could be as ow as -8 °C) and untreated wet surfaces, particularly those where snow has partly melted and then refreezes, will become very icy.

Communities rally together

Huge thanks has been given to all the ‘snow heroes’ of Surrey.

“To the people who offered lifts to hospital workers, or did a call-out on local Facebook groups asking if anyone needed anything, you are so kind,” said a Surrey resident.

“To our communities, we salute you and we send you a virtual box of chocolates and a nice bottle of red.

“All those who helped, grabbed a shovel or helped a stranded motorist, you’re incredible. Thank you, thank you.”
