In an interview with The Lallantop, the writer was asked about Akhtar. He said, “If I continue working for the next 20-25 years, perhaps I’ll reach a point where people mention my name alongside Javed Akhtar’s in one breath. Right now, I don’t consider myself worthy. If I were to take the names of some people in this world whom I deeply respect, then Javed Saab is in my top two or three, irrespective of everything.”

The lyricist behind the song “Teri Mitti” from Kesari has previously criticised film awards. Manoj Muntashir seemed upset that his song lost the Filmfare Award to Divine and Ankur Tewari, who wrote the Gully Boy song “Apna Time Aayega”. Opening up about the same, he said, “If you see the nomination of that awards ceremony, there were some absolutely fantastic songs, one after another.” He added, “Aapne uss  gaane ko puraskar diya jo kahi se geetkar honeki paimaish jo hoti hai, uspe khada he nahi utarta.”

Talking about rap songs, he said, “Till today, I have not been able to accept rap songs, as a listener. I have nothing against rap. I have heard Gully Boy songs, they are good. But people have problems with my dialogues like ‘Lanka jala denge’ and they don’t care about ‘nanga he toh aya tha ghanta lekar jaega.’ I feel both are wrong. Nobody has the right to use unparliamentary language in art. This is wrong. Express yourself in a better way.”
