A man’s body was recovered overnight after a man was reported stuck in the rapid-moving, high-water current of a river in Newbury, Massachusetts. Newbury police responded to the Parker River in the area of Forest and River streets around 6:40 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man stuck in the current. Police said a bystander tried to enter the river to reach the man, but could not do so.Sue Nagle, whose son lives right along the river, told WCVB that he jumped into the frigid water to try and save the victim. “He went in the river to try to get him, but he was maybe, I don’t know, three feet from him,” Nagle said. “He couldn’t grab him.””I think he was holding on to the tree that went across the river,” the woman said. The woman said her son attempted to run home to get a ladder. She said by the time he returned to the rescue scene, it was too late. The bystander was treated and released, according to police. The victim has not been identified.
