Men’s Tennis releases 2023-24 schedule

FULL 2023-24 SCHEDULE

Austin – Texas Men’s Tennis has released its 2023-24 schedule that will begin with the Longhorn Invitational from September 22-24 in Austin at the Texas Tennis Center. Along with fall play, the schedule features dual match contests against 16 teams that finished ranked in the top 60 by the ITA last season, including at least eight in the top 25.

The Longhorn Invitational will feature individual matches against players from Georgia, USC, Florida State and Arizona in a similar format as the Miami Spring Invite that will open the spring and have players from Miami, Arizona State and LSU from Jan. 5-7.

Texas then returns for a home stretch of six-straight matches against Lamar (Jan. 12), defending National Champion Virginia (Jan. 18), the ITA Kickoff Weekend versus UTSA and then either Utah or Oklahoma State on Jan. 27-28, Stanford (Feb. 4) and Florida (Feb. 10). Those lead into the ITA National Team Indoor Championships which will be held from Feb. 16-19 in New York.

The Longhorns then play another home match against St. John’s on Feb. 28 before traveling to Fort Worth for a non-conference road contest against TCU (Mar. 2). That leads into the final stretch of non-conference play against Cal (Mar. 8) and Ohio State (Mar. 10) in Austin, and Georgia (Mar. 14) and USC (Mar. 17) on the road.

Conference competition in the expanded Big 12 with then start with two home matches against UCF (Mar. 22) and TCU (Mar. 24), followed by four road trips to BYU (Mar. 28), Texas Tech (Mar. 30), Oklahoma State (Apr. 5) and Oklahoma (Apr. 7). The regular season finale will then be against Baylor at the Texas Tennis Center on Apr. 13.

In the remainder of fall play, the Longhorns will compete in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa from Oct. 2-8, the ITA Texas Regionals in Fort Worth from Oct. 19-24, and the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego from Nov. 1-5, along with various other Futures and Challenger events.

Texas finished the 2023 season with a 26-4 record, which is the second-most wins for the program since 2010, trailing only the 29 from the 2019 National Championship season. The Longhorns made their third NCAA Final Four appearance in the last four tournaments, while the season also saw the team claim the outright Big 12 regular season championship, make the program’s first appearance in the final of the ITA National Indoor Championships, and spend the last six weeks with the nation’s No. 1 ranking. Its No. 3 final ranking marked the fourth top-four finish in the last five years.

The Longhorns return their top-five players from last year’s regular singles lineup including ITA National Player of the Year senior Eliot Spizzirri, junior Pierre-Yves Bailly, senior Micah Braswell, senior Siem Woldeab, and senior Cleeve Harper, along with seniors Evin McDonald and Eshan Talluri and redshirt sophomore Lucas Brown. They also add Florida transfer sophomore Jonah Braswell and freshman Rahul Sachdev with the two departures from last season’s team being graduating players Nevin Arimilli and Chih Chi Huang.
