Microsoft began rolling out the new 2023 update (version 23H2) for Windows 11 users on Tuesday. This update introduces over 150 new features to the operating system, including the new generative AI-assisted copilot, which was previously limited to the Edge web browser.

Interested users who are currently on Windows 11 22H2 can select “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” from Settings > Windows Update to install the latest version of Windows 11. The auto rollout of this update will take place in the coming months.

With this update, the built-in Photos app also gains new capabilities, such as one-click background blur and the ability to remove and replace the background of an image on the Paint app, all made possible with the help of generative AI.

The highlight of the Windows 11 2023 update is the new copilot, backed by OpenAI’s large language model GPT-4. The copilot on Windows 11 provides access to various generative AI tools like DALL·E 3 for free.

The copilot, which is still in preview mode, assists users with a variety of tasks, including auto-organising windows, summarising web pages, drafting content, and has also been incorporated into the Snipping tool, allowing users to edit and resize images with a single click. Microsoft’s built-in Clipchamp app now allows users to edit photos and videos like professionals.

Microsoft’s mail app, Outlook, also receives an overhaul with the Windows 11 2023 update. It now supports coordination with various accounts and helps users write clear and concise emails. The update also makes it easy to create Windows backups and restore them from the cloud. To enhance security, the Windows 11 23H2 update also adds native passkey support.
