MLB: The Milwaukee Brewers are right in the mix of things in the NL Central. As of August 5th, the Brewers have a 1/2 game lead over the Reds with a record of 59-52. However, the red-hot Cubs are hot on their trail sitting 2 1/2 games back. With just under two months to go in the regular season, the NL Central is completely up for grabs. However, the Brewers received some great news regarding their pitching rotation going forward.
Milwaukee Brewers To Add 2x All-Star Brandon Woodruff Back To Line-Up
For the first time in nearly four months Brandon Woodruff is set to start a game for the Brewers. Barring something unforeseen, Woodruff will come off the injured list to start Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates at American Family Field. I
t will be the right-hander’s first Major League start since April 7, before he landed on the injured list with a sub-scapular strain that represented the first major arm injury of the 30-year-old’s pro career. Woodruff commented on his pending return to the lineup:
“I’m smiling, man. It’s been so dadgum long,” Woodruff said after shagging fly balls during batting practice on Thursday as the Brewers opened a weeklong homestand. “Obviously, I hold myself to a high standard and expect a lot of myself, but just being healthy [after] not being able to play for three months up here, it puts a lot of things in perspective a little bit. I’m just happy I get to pitch.”
What Will Brandon Woodruff Bring Back To The Milwaukee Brewers? (MLB)
Woodruff is a two-time National League All-Star and owns a 2.97 ERA since becoming a regular member of Milwaukee’s starting rotation in 2019. His healthy return will be a huge boost for a staff that has held its own in spite of myriad injury issues.
Woodruff also posted an encouraging 3.09 ERA and 11:2 K:BB over 11.2 innings during his three-start minor league rehab assignment between High-A Wisconsin and Triple-A Nashville. He got up to 72 pitches during his final outing on the farm and might be able to approach 85-to-90 pitches in his return to Milwaukee. The 30-year-old right-hander was originally sidelined due to a Grade 2 subscapular strain.
Woodruff was 1-0 with an 0.79 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings before going on the injured list. He went 13-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 190 strikeouts in 153 1/3 innings last season.
