10AM – DOGS SET TO LAND SUNS’ PICK 4

The Western Bulldogs are set to land Gold Coast’s No. 4 draft pick, potentially as soon as today, reports The Age.

A sought-after selection that’s expendable to the Suns given their links to academy players, the Bulldogs have been seen as the front-runners given their collection of assets.

The Dogs will reportedly hand over picks 10 and 17 as well as a future first-rounder in exchange for Gold Coast’s fourth overall pick plus two 2023 third-round picks and a future third rounder.

Foxfooty.com.au reported the Dogs are expected to draft Eastern Ranges small forward Nick Watson or star Tasmanian midfielder Colby McKercher with Pick 4, while they’re also set to pick up father-player Jordan Croft in this year’s draft.

9AM – GREAT’S ADAMS WARNING

Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton believes Sydney should not overextend itself in a trade for Taylor Adams, warning the club not to pay “overs” for the 30-year-old.

Adams requested a trade to the Swans on the weekend despite having a year to run on his deal with Collingwood, with the 30-year-old seeking increased midfield minutes and longer term security.

While the Pies said Adams was a “required player and leader”, SEN’s Tom Morris said he could see pick No.23, which would be pushed back to the late 20s on draft night, would be “about right”.

Brereton said he wouldn’t pay that price if he were the Swans, given Adams’ age and the fact he had already been pushed out of Collingwood’s midfield and onto the half-forward line.

“I think that’s overs given his age,” Brereton said on SEN Breakfast.

“Given their druthers, will they (Collingwood) play him? If they have everyone fit, will he get a game ahead of who they want in the midfield?

“I think something in the 20s is overs for Taylor at this point of his career.”

6AM – TOP-10 PICK UP FOR GRABS

Geelong’s No.7 selection is viewed as gettable by rival clubs keen to move up the draft order, reports AFL Media.

With most recruiters believing there are around eight or nine top prospects in this year’s draft class the Cats’ sole selection of any value – they traded out their 2023 second, third and fourth-round picks last year – holds quite a lot of it.

Carlton, West Coast, Melbourne and North Melbourne are all among those believed to be interested in moving up the order, with the Cats a strong contender to trade backwards to acquire more picks.

Geelong list manager Andrew Mackie has said the club is open to “all opportunities”.

Gold Coast’s No.4 pick is also being eyed off by rival clubs with the Western Bulldogs believed to have the current best offer, with something like picks 10, 17 and their future first-rounder on the table.

6AM – HOW DOGS DEAL CAN UNLOCK TWO MOVES

A wantaway St Kilda defender’s exit could allow Ross Lyon’s club to unlock several moves after another was officially added to its to-do list on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints now have a week and a half to find the right price for both Fremantle wingman Liam Henry and Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow, after the latter lodged his trade request on the weekend.

They are also considering a move for Essendon midfielder Dylan Shiel, partially as part of Jade Gresham’s free agency exit, as taking on some of Shiel’s salary could entice the Bombers to pay more for Gresham – in turn ensuring St Kilda gets a first-round pick as compensation.

Finding a price for Henry loomed as a sticking point given the Dockers are ready to play hard-ball for the 2019 first-round pick and Academy product.

But the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reports the Saints will argue Henry’s value is close to that of Nick Coffield, the oft-injured 2017 top-10 pick who has asked for a move to the Western Bulldogs.

The Saints were initially hoping to land Henry for a third-round pick but could now try to on-trade the pick they get from the Bulldogs for Coffield.

The Bulldogs have picks 10, 17, 37, 64, 67 and 70.
