Looking at Johnny here, it looks like Nintendo needs to Finish Him
The Nintendo Switch is a full six years old now and while it may be notably exceptional at hiding its age in certain ways, emergent footage of the new Mortal Kombat 1 on the console instantly makes us painfully aware that modern titles are pushing its limits.
Gaming journalist SynthPotato posted four Mortal Kombat 1 comparison photos juxtaposing the same screen shots from PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, and in the latter the characters look like absolute abominations.
It’s clear that what’s under the Switch’s hood wasn’t meant to run the likes of MK1, and though it technically gets the job done, it does so with longer load times, noticeably lower graphical qualities, and an only somewhat stable 60 frames per second frame rate.
You’ve already seen an example of Johnny Cage’s model from the banner, but we have another in the gallery below along with a look at Scorpion and, and this might be the worst offender, Li-Mei.

We do have to note that buying Mortal Kombat 1 on the Switch won’t save you any money compared to doing so on more modern consoles as the base title still runs for $70 regardless.
The good news is that we’ve been hearing more and more rumblings of a Switch 2, as it seems it’s about time for Nintendo to up the ante in order to stay relevant with modern titles.

This even adds 2022’s portable Steam Deck into the mix, which surely doesn’t reach the same graphical levels as Sony or Microsoft’s newest consoles, but still far outperforms Nintendo’s:
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on Sept. 19, 2023.
