Moscow builds up forces in West against ‘anti-Russian’ Poland

Controversial cluster bombs supplied by the US are allowing Ukrainian forces to push forward on their counteroffensive, soldiers have said.

One soldier said his platoon had been pinned down east of Robotyne, a key village on the southern front, before the munitions allowed them to capture the Russian position.

He told the Wall Street Journal: “They were yelling, ‘We have lots of wounded. We need to evacuate. We’re pulling back.’”

A private, named only as Oleksandr, said the weapons had a wide range of effect, noting: “Even if you miss a little, it still works.”

Capt. Anatoliy Kharchenko said cluster bombs were “effective” but added that Russia had spread troops thinly across its trenches, some of which are seven foot deep, to minimise losses.
