HMD to launch Barbie-themed flip phone this summer

The retro chic flip phone is making an unexpected comeback in 2024. Human Mobile Devices has partnered with Mattel to release a Barbie-themed flip phone this summer, tapping into both nostalgia and the growing “digital detox” movement. Dubbed the “Barbie Flip Phone,” this sparkly new device promises to embody the empowering ethos of the iconic Barbie brand while providing a convenient way to take breaks from constant smartphone distractions.

Flip phone sales have more than doubled in Europe over the past year as younger generations increasingly seek balance from tech overload, according to HMD. Nearly 40% of Gen Z report worrying about too much screen time, with a third actively trying to limit social media use.

Samsung Galaxy Ring could be showcased at the event

Samsung is gearing up to launch its new wearable device, the Galaxy Ring, which promises to offer some surprising abilities. The Ring, which is expected to debut at the Galaxy Unpacked event in late July or early August, will compete with the Oura Ring, a popular health tracker that measures blood flow and heart rate.

But the Galaxy Ring will not only monitor your health, but also let you control other devices and make wireless payments with a simple gesture. This is thanks to Samsung’s existing software ecosystem, which includes Samsung Pay and SmartThings. The Ring will also feature electrocardiogram functions, similar to the ones used by the Oura Ring, to detect any heart problems.

The Galaxy Ring is still in the prototype stage, but it is reportedly entering mass production in the second quarter of this year. Rumour has it that the ring will be put on showcase at the MWC event.
