Live40 updates

  • Not to get ahead of ourselves here, but no matter which team wins this next game, it’s going to be a heck of a rematch with a spot in the Final Four on the line.

If Iowa wins, Iowa vs. LSU is a 2023 title game rematch. LSU shut down everyone around Caitlin Clark to win the championship.

If Colorado wins, Colorado vs. LSU is a rematch of the season-opener. Colorado stunned theTigers, who loaded an already talented roster with transfers and were ranked No. 1, in Las Vegas. LSU never took back the top spot in the Associated Press rankings.

  • Official tip-off for Iowa-Colorado is 3:54 p.m. ET. Judging by the roars before Iowa even came out of the tunnel, it’s going to be rocking in here.

  • UCLA’s season ends short of Elite Eight

If UCLA had hit a few more early shots, this game might look very different. Head coach Cori Close wouldn’t make excuses when asked about it earlier this weekend, but the Bruins had one of the tougher travels getting out here from Los Angeles. Their plane was delayed and they had to stop to re-fuel in Kansas City. By the time they arrived at the hotel and went to sleep, players said it was around 12:45 a.m. ET. Then they turned around and had to be at breakfast by 7:45 a.m. to make it to practice.

One of the difficulties in these eight-team super-regionals is fitting in all of the teams for practices, media availabilities, meals, etc before games tip off in the afternoon time slots. Days are very packed for everyone. Of course, UCLA will have to get used to this type of travel. The Bruins’ run in the Pac-12 is officially over. UCLA heads to the Big Ten next year.

  • Final: LSU 78, UCLA 69

The No. 3 Tigers eke out the win over No. 2 UCLA in an absolute thriller of a game from start to finish. Flau’jae Johnson was the hero for LSU with 24 points, 12 rebounds and seemingly every big play down the stretch. The defending champs advance to the Elite Eight, where they’ll face the winner of Iowa-Colorado.

  • The Tigers are up 7 now with 12.7 seconds left.

  • Angel Reese just fouled out with 31 seconds left. She said something to the UCLA bench on her way off the court and coach Cori Close is livid about it.

  • Hailey Van Lith hits both free throws and the Tigers are up 6.

  • And an offense foul by UCLA on the other end! That may do it here barring a miracle. The Tigers will go to the foul line already up four.

  • Flau’jae Johnson with the scoop to give the Tigers a 4-point lead!

  • Lauren Betts hits the front end and misses the second.

  • Aneesa Morrow is whistled for a foul on UCLA’s Betts as she goes for a layup. Two shots ahead.

  • The Bruins have the ball, down 3 points.

  • The Tigers have a 68-67 lead with just under 2 minutes left in the game.

  • What a play by UCLA’s Lauren Betts. Kim Mulkey is beside herself.

  • And now Lauren Betts has four fouls, as does LSU’s Aalyah Del Rosario. This one might come down to who can stay on the floor the longest.

  • We are still tied, at 60-60 now. Angel Reese has been on the bench with four fouls but that won’t continue much longer with just 4 minutes left on the clock.

  • That foul is huge. Reese immediately headed toward the bench. Kiki Rice hits both free throws. UCLA’s offense has already opened up now that its hitting 3s. The Bruins have an opportunity to blow open a large lead while Reese is out. We saw this make the difference in South Carolina’s regular season win over LSU.

  • Angel Reese just caught her fourth foul in a big moment here.

  • End of 3Q: UCLA 48, LSU 48

The 3-pointers have started to fall for the Bruins and they ended the third quarter on a tear while the Tigers struggled with foul trouble. We have a tight one heading to the fourth.
