Google just announced a bunch of new features for Android devices at CES 2024, which will soon roll out to eligible devices, which include smartphones, smart TVs, smart home accessories, and EVs. Google in collaboration with Samsung is rebranding Nearby Share to Quick Share, Fast Pairing support coming to Android smart TVs, enhanced screen casting capabilities, better interoperability between various Android devices, and an upgrade Android Auto, which will soon be available in more cars.

Nearby Share is now Quick Share

Google has collaborated with Samsung, one of the biggest Android smartphone makers and has rebranded Nearby Share as Quick Share, which makes sharing files across Android devices and even Windows PCs a lot more intuitive. Google is also partnering with LG to include Quick Share as a pre-installed application on upcoming laptops. Quick Share, with an updated logo, will start rolling out to devices with Nearby Share starting next month.

Fast Pair comes to Smart TVs

You can now quickly pair your TWS or any wireless earphones with Fast Pair capability with just a single click even on your Google TV OS-powered smart TVs. When a compatible headphone is turned on, a big popup appears on the smart TV screen, allowing users to quickly connect to the same with just a single click.

Enhanced screen casting capabilities

In select markets, Android smartphone users can now screencast live TikTok videos to a smart TV with a single click. This will work with any Google TV with built-in Chromecast from various brands like LG, HiSense, and TCL. Google has also shared that, there are over 220 million active Google TV and Android TV OS-powered devices.

Better interoperability across devices with Matter and enhanced Android Auto

Google TV OS-powered devices will soon act as smart hubs with the ability to control various smart home Matter devices, making it easy to control all the smart home accessories from one device. Similarly, Google also announced an enhanced Android Auto with an upgraded Google Maps, which will soon be available on the latest cars like Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. The new Android Auto offers additional updates such as real-time battery information, estimated battery level upon arrival, suggested charging stops, and estimated charging time.
