New Kensington, Arnold fires under investigation

Officials are investigating four fires over the course of two days in neighboring Westmoreland County communities. The proximity and frequency of the fires raise concerns that they may be suspicious.The latest fire happened on the 1500 block of Leishman Avenue sometime after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. It’s unclear if any one lived in the Arnold home. Several hours before that fire, smoke and flames were spotted from another Leishman Avenue building in Arnold, just after 1 a.m. Sunday. This fire was along the 1700 block of Leishman, roughly two blocks separated the two buildings.Neighbors who called 911 tell Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 the house was abandoned.Late Saturday night, flames were spotted at another abandoned house on Leishman Avenue. This one was just down the street, in the 1200 block, in New Kensington.Crews were called there around 11:30 p.m. and did a sweep of the building to make sure no one was inside. On Saturday afternoon, fire swept through an abandoned building Fourth Avenue in Arnold. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the second floor of the building.The fire chief is calling these last couple of fires suspicious.Investigators tell us the fire marshal has been contacted to look at, at least three of the fires and determine a cause.
