EVANSVILLE, In. (WEHT) – Two juniors at New Tech Institute in Evansville have been awarded full scholarships to the University of Evansville after taking first place in the Changemaker Challenge.
The duo’s Solar Lens pitch seeks to address crime by implementing over 3500 solar-powered street lights equipped with cameras in Evansville’s Promise Neighborhood.
The students say that similar projects have helped reduce crime rates in other cities and they’re excited to see how it can help Evansville.
The duo say that the University of Southern Indiana is developing a prototype design for the street lights; the next step will be talking with manufacturers to assemble the lights for installation.
