Newgate University matriculates 460 students | The Guardian Nigeria News

Newgate University, Niger State, has administered its second oath of matriculation to 460 students, which included the first batch of Doctor of Physiotherapy.

Vice-Chancellor of Newgate University, Prof. Sadiq Yusuf, disclosed this while addressing the new students at the university premises in Minna on Wednesday.

Yusuf noted that the 460 students were admitted into 14 Bachelor Degree programmes in the faculties of Medical and Health Sciences, Computing and Information Technology, Management as well as Social Sciences.

The VC further stressed that the institution through its Ibiyeye Hunt Talent and Development Initiative, has offered full scholarship to 15 students for the duration of their studies in the university, adding that they finished from public schools in Minna, the state capital, and had excelled in their O”Level Examinations, but were not able to proceed with their education due to their socio-economic status.

He maintained that the university has continued to thrive and distinguish itself in the academic landscape across the country, noting that commitment to innovation and the holistic development of students remains unwavering.

“The university is a place where you enjoy lots of freedom, but that often comes with some corresponding obligations. You must know that where your freedom ends is where another person’s freedom begins. So, not only must you protect your rights, privileges and freedom, you must ensure that you do not trample on the rights, privileges and freedom of others,” he cautioned the new students.

He disclosed that at during the third matriculation, the university would matriculate Bachelor of Law students, and by the time the fourth matriculation holds, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students would be matriculated as well.

Yusuf enjoined the students to emulate the example of their mentors and teachers in self-discipline, self-care, good mode of dressing, and dedication to studies and work.

Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Proprietor of Newgate University, Hassan Nuhu, attributed the landmark successes recorded to the commitment of the management and staff of the institution, revealing that the school started from nursery to secondary and up to university level.

Nuhu appreciated parents, guardians as well as stakeholders for their immense contributions to the success story of the institution.

The oath of matriculation was administered to the students by the Register of the university, Baba Jiya.
