Albuquerque Police has released the name of the man involved in Thursday’s shooting incident with APD officers. An investigation has also determined the man committed suicide.An APD spokesman says Matthias Wynkoop died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to police, Two APD officers had fired at Wynkoop during a confrontation Thursday on the 4800 block of McMahon Boulevard NW. Police say an autopsy showed Wynkoop did not suffer any wounds aside from the self-inflicted wound.On Thursday, Chief Harold Medina said officers received a call from a man who said he was having a mental health crisis. The man stated that he was armed with a gun and needed help.Medina said after a period of negotiations, the man exited his vehicle and began walking around with the gun. “At one point and time officers indicated that the subject pointed the firearm at them and at least two officers discharged their firearms,” Medina said. “The individual was believed to have been struck.”Medina said the man then re-entered his vehicle and tried to drive away.
