Ryanair, easyJet and BA passengers issued travel warning as certain type of bag ‘banned’

A warning has been issued by a frustrated holidaymaker after they were not allowed to board their flight due to a bag.

According to Twitter user Pandora Sykes, they were refused boarding due to the type of bag they had taken. They said ‘smart bags’ are no longer allowed on flights, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A smart bag is a suitcase which has built-in electronics such as device charging, electronic locks and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Pandora Sykes said: “Beware anyone being so foolish to fly Easyjet – captain just refused to let us board our flights because our checked-in suitcases have USB ports (aka “smart bags”). Easyjet quietly changed their Ts&Cs a few weeks ago without telling their customers.”

Many airlines do have restrictions on the types of batteries used in the bags and suitcases. Here is what each airline actually says.

In all cases, for safety reasons, the lithium battery/power bank needs to be disconnected, so if you are unable to remove it from your luggage, we won’t be able to accept the bag on board.
