Phillips eyed up by two clubs

Kalvin Phillips could reportedly be the subject of interest from Juventus and Newcastle as a result of the betting scandal in Italy.

talkSPORT understands that Newcastle fear Sandro Tonali could face a lengthy suspension amid his alleged role in illegal betting, with the club confirming he is being investigated.

Meanwhile Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has been banned for seven months by the Italian Football Federation due to a breach of rules.

As a result, The Telegraph report that both clubs could enter the January transfer market for a replacement, with Phillips an option.

The 27-year-old has struggled for minutes at City since he signed from Leeds in 2022 and will ‘consider’ a move away.

Phillips has made 26 appearances in total under Pep Guardiola – starting just five times for the Citizens.

United women get training facilities revamp

Manchester United have invested £7million into a new-look women’s training complex at the club’s Carrington base.

The high-performance facility was unveiled on Tuesday and will be used by both the women’s team and the boys academy.

The facilities boast gym changing rooms, kit and boot rooms, a women’s first-team restaurant, meeting rooms and a players’ lounge.

The regeneration of the club’s training ground comes almost a year after Cristiano Ronaldo’s scathing criticism of the club for a ‘lack of evolution’ and ‘dated training facilities’ during his ill-fated second stint at Old Trafford that ended in 2022.

But Manchester United’s head of women’s football Polly Bancroft preferred to highlight the good work the club has done to show their commitment to the Women’s team and revealed the facility took just seven months to build.

“We’re really pleased to be opening the new building here at Carrington,” Bancroft said. “It’s a dedicated space for the women and some of the boys academy here as well.”

She continued: “We’ve now got brand new facilities with a gym, with analysis rooms, meeting rooms, canteen, physio rooms, doctors rooms.

“The building is just one part of the one club approach we have at Manchester United and having the Women’s team visible and facilities visible for all of them at Carrington is a great statement.”

Silva hints at Chelsea exit

Veteran Chelsea defender Thiago SIlva has opened the door to a return to his native Brazil to re-join boyhood club Fluminense.

The 39-year-old is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

And he has now talked up a switch back to Fluminense, who he represented between 2006-2009.

Commenting on a potential move back to Fluminense when speaking to TNT Sports, Silva said: “This is a long-standing relationship, right?

“But I’d rather keep quiet now.

“I have a family, I have children. So we have to think about that too.

“It’s about seeing where to finish off this beautiful career.”

Goodison confusion

Everton’s prospective new owners insist their takeover bid is still on track.

News emerged this morning that 777 Partners’ bid to buy the Merseyside club had stalled because of a failure to supply information to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

However, the Miami-based investment firm insists everything that has been asked of them to date has been provided, and that the process is ongoing.

“We have submitted all relevant documentation to the FCA in line with their requests and indicative timings,” a spokesperson for 777 Partners said.

“As we have previously stated, the regulatory processes in relation to the proposed acquisition of Everton FC need to be allowed the proper time and space to run their course in private, and so we will not be commenting further.”

A deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the Toffees was signed by 777 Partners last month.

Genoa in Serie A, Germany’s Hertha Berlin, Standard Liege in Belgium, Vasco de Gama in Brazil, and French third-tier side Red Star are already part of American firm 777’s portfolio.

The group heads must also pass the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test before their ownership can be officially ratified.
