Sensex, Nifty slip 0.5% after opening high; Nifty IT, Energy, Auto down 0.5-1.5%

Stock Market Live: Continuing its winning streak, Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Wednesday, February 21. But, the indices soon erased their gains after hitting record highs and closed 0.5 per cent lower with most of the sectoral indices tanking.

US crude oil futures pulled back during Tuesday’s trade after hitting a 3-month high last week. US crude futures gained 3 per cent to settle at 79.19 per barrel last week. Brent crude price is trading 0.39 per cent higher at 82.66 while WTI crude is trading 0.40 per cent higher at 77.35.

After remaining closed for extended weekends, US markets ticked down on Tuesday led by Nvidia. Tech stocks witnessed the most fall. Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed 0.10 per cent lower at 38,602.00 while the S&P 500 closed 0.14 per cent in red at 4,984.50. Tech-heavy NASDAQ futures lost 0.26 per cent at 17,560.75.
