Several injured in 3-vehicle crash on Route 29 in Columbia

Three vehicles collided Sunday afternoon on southbound U.S. Route 29 in Howard County.Howard County police were called shortly after 3 p.m. for a crash on Route 29 in Columbia.According to police, eight people were taken to hospitals, including trauma centers, with some patients suffering serious injuries.”You just hear a boom, almost like the house dropped on its foundation,” said Yaya Wilson, who lives nearby.Route 29 south remained closed through the early evening for the investigation.Crunched up vehicles with airbags deployed and emergency lights shined through the tree line from Wilson’s home off Route 29.”We didn’t know what was going on, but then we came out to leave, we saw the police and everyone. We just hope everyone is OK,” Wilson said.Traffic was backed up on both sides of Route 29. The southbound lanes reopened a couple hours after the crash. A cause remains under investigation.”We need to just take that courtesy and that time and attention to make sure everyone gets to where they’re going safe and sound. You just got to have that common courtesy. We need that back,” Wilson said.Police said the victims’ injuries range from minor to serious.
