The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) on Wednesday announced its list of the most popular Indian stars of 2023, with Shah Rukh Khan taking the number one spot. The Badshaah of Bollywood has had a remarkable year, with two back-to-back blockbusters that broke numerous box office records. He first starred in Pathaan, and then in Jawan, which made a combined total of Rs 2200 crore globally. His third film of the year, Dunki, is lined up for release in December.
IMDb’s top 10 list also included two of his Jawan co-stars: Vijay Sethupathi took the number 10 spot, while Nayanthara claimed the fifth position. Sethupathi had a busy 2023, appearing in the streaming series Farzi and five other films, including the critically acclaimed Viduthalai Part 1. Nayanthara’s year, on the other hand, was dominated by Jawan.
The number two spot went to Alia Bhatt, who not only made her Hollywood debut with a villainous turn in Heart of Stone, but also delivered one of the biggest hits of her career with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Deepika Padukone took the third spot thanks to a supporting role in Pathaan and an extended cameo in Jawan, while Wamiqa Gabbi took the fourth spot thanks to major roles in streaming titles such as Jubilee, Charlie Chopra and the Mystery of Solang Valley, and Khufiya.
Tamannaah Bhatia took the sixth spot; she starred in three streaming projects this year, in addition to appearing in the blockbuster Tamil film Jailer. Kareena Kapoor Khan made her streaming debut with Jaane Jaan, finishing at the seventh spot, while Made in Heaven star Sobhita Dhulipala took the eighth spot. Akshay Kumar, who continues to struggle at the box office despite appearing in the hit film OMG 2 this year, took the ninth spot.

Last year’s list was topped by Dhanush. Alia, coincidentally, had finished at the number two spot last year as well. Last year’s list was dominated by stars from the South, with Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Allu Arjun and Yash finding spots alongside Dhanush. This year’s list signals a return to form for Bollywood.
