SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Margaret Thatcher once said, “If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman”. That’s exactly what’s been happening for the past 11 years at The Event Company, an internationally recognized event planning company run completely by women. CEO and Founder Addie Graham-Kramer said that she saw a need in Sioux Falls for a business like this and a personal calling to show what a woman in charge can do.
She explained that both her parents were entrepreneurs, so she understood what the job was like and what it would take to be successful. She also credits most of her success to the inspirational women before her from around the country who have paved this road for her and she looks to her team looks at her like that as well.
To that, a member of her staff can’t seem to praise her enough.
Communications Manager at The Event Company Ariana Mount said, “She’s just been the most incredible role model. Not only as a boss, not only as an entrepreneur. She really cares about the people that she’s talking to whether it’s just her employee or somebody down the street taking her coffee order. She’s just all about making people feel good and feel heard when they talk to her”.
The Event Company has hosted a wide variety of events that apply to companies, non-profits, and even socials. For these women, it’s about how they can serve those around them. In 2016, they worked with local non-profits to host a Toby Keith concert. Addie recalled how fundraising for an event like that helped them give back to the people who make up their everyday lives.
She continued to explain how she remembers going on stage at the Denny Sanford Premier Center to a crowd of 10,000 people. She said she told her team to look around at all the people, that very moment giving her goosebumps to this day.
“We were a part of creating that and those are memories that you cannot easily replicate,” Abbie said.
The 11 women who make up The Event Company, expressed how people expect them to not get along. However, that’s just not the case.
Ariana explained that each person on the team is unique in their own way, each woman bringing something completely different to the table. Due to this variety of varying interests, she believes that being surrounded by these women each day truly makes her a better person.
