In observance of Small Business Saturday, shops in Old Monterey held a variety of sales to kick off the holiday shopping season. The day was started by American Express back in 2010 and co-sponsored by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2011 as a way to encourage shoppers to spend at local stores during the holiday season, and highlight the importance of those dollars year round. While some of the special deals in Monterey lasted for just 24 hours, others will continue through December.
