Conviction missing from timid Nifty. What traders should do on Wednesday

As Nifty ended flat on Monday, a small negative candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper shadow. Technically, this market action indicates range-bound movement in the market at the highs. This also signals lack of strength in the market to sustain the upside bounce, said Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.

On the derivatives front, the strikes of 19400 saw the addition of call open interest.

Negative chart patterns like lower tops and bottoms continued as per daily chart and Nifty seems to be forming a smaller lower top as of now within a narrow range, analysts said.

The rupee exhibited a positive performance, recording gains of 0.13rs and reaching 82.97, driven by a weakened dollar index that dipped below 103$. Additionally, crude oil prices displayed a subdued trend in recent days, contributing to the rupee’s strength. Market attention remains focused on the upcoming release of the RBI MPC meeting minutes, anticipated for Thursday evening, which will offer insights into inflation and global economic concerns. Moreover, market participants are keenly watching the Jackson Hole symposium scheduled for Saturday, where the views of FED Chairperson Powell on interest rates will play a crucial role in influencing market sentiments. The rupee’s trading range is expected to be between 82.75 and 83.25.

Rupee rises 19 paise to close at 82.94 (provisional) against US dollar.

Despite the support of positive international markets, Indian equities struggled to maintain their upward momentum due to lingering apprehensions over ongoing global uncertainties. Sectors closely tied to the Western economy, such as IT and pharma, faced challenges, while domestic-oriented sectors, alongside mid- and small-caps, exhibited resilience and gained traction. The influence of higher bond yields and concerns about potential rate hikes in the US is prompting FIIs to withdraw funds from the domestic market, contributing to the market’s volatility.

Global stocks extend comeback, U.S. yields hit new peaks

Patel Engineering says the company in a joint venture has been declared lowest bidder for an urban infrastructure development project; co’s share in contract is Rs 446 crore

There are two dominant factors influencing equity markets now. One, the resilient US economy is supporting global growth and global equity markets; this is a positive. Two, the sharp spike in US bond yields (the 10-year yield at 4.34% is the highest since 2007) is impacting capital flows to emerging markets like India; this is a negative for Indian markets. Sustained rise in FII inflows will happen only if the US bond yields decline. Clarity on this will emerge only after trends in U S inflation and Fed’s monetary stance indicate softening. Investors should wait for clarity on these macro trends. Meanwhile, long-term investors can accumulate high quality growth stocks. Large-cap banks are now fairly valued. The prospects for large-caps in the capital goods sector are bright.
