Stuart says he feels like the ‘luckiest guy in Scotland’

As Scotland fans prepare to try and get their hands on Euro 2024 tickets, the scramble to book travel and accommodation is well underway.

Flights from Scotland to Germany have shot up in price since they were drawn to take on the hosts in the tournament’s opening match on Saturday.

The tournament kicks off on the 14 June 2024.

Tickets for members of tartan army associations will go on sale later this week.

Stuart Kenny from Edinburgh says he feels like the “luckiest guy in Scotland” after securing his ticket to the opening match.

He told BBC Scotland’s Drivetime programme: “I just got married to beautiful German lady, and not only is she the perfect bride, but her father, also happened to score two tickets to the opening match in Munich.

“When the draw was on I was screaming at my television for that ball to be Scotland.”

‘I would crawl to the match’

Not only is was Stuart lucky enough to get a ticket, he also feels fortunate he won’t have to fork out for most of his accommodation, after hearing horror stories about prices rocketing.

“I think it is going to rack up a quite big bill for people, will that turn some people off? Absolutely.”

He continued: “For some people it just won’t be affordable even if you are lucky enough to somehow get a ticket.

“I’m in a lucky position where I’m getting some stuff paid for me and I’ll fork out for the rest.

“But, I would happily crawl to Munich at this point to get to that match. I’m so excited for it.”

Seats on an EasyJet flight from Edinburgh from Munich on 12 June are selling for £742, almost nine times what the same journey would cost the week prior.

But, Scotland fans aren’t letting that stop them and are finding creative ways to travel.

Gordon Burnett and Paul Rafferty said the trip will be a great adventure

Gordon Burnett and Paul Rafferty, along with four friends, will be making the journey to Germany in their very own Tartan Army campervan.

After travelling from Folkstone to Calais and through Europe they’ll set up camp in the centre of the Germany and use public transport to get about.

Gordon told BBC Scotland News: “It was always going to be the campervan, for us it’s all about the adventure.

“We’ve got friends who managed to book early, and they went back on and the price had gone up three-fold.”

Gordon added: “As Tartan Army foot soldiers, we always knew this day was coming. We were always in hope we would reach another major finals. And for us, we always knew this was the way we would do it.

“We’ve been on many, many trips together. We all know each other very well, which obviously we’re going to have to in this thing.”

Scotland vs Germany will kick of the Euro 2024 tournament on 14 June 2024.
