Chennai: A software engineer and his girlfriend were attacked and robbed by two men at Panaiyur on East Coast Road (ECR). The criminal duo made the pair withdraw money from an online money portal.Police said Appu Saravanan of Selaiyur, employed as a software engineer, visited Copper Beach at Panaiyur off ECR with his girlfriend, on Friday. As they were hanging around till 10 pm, two drunk men accosted the couple and threatened them to part with cash and jewellery. They also attacked Appu Saravanan with a beer bottle, causing injuries on head and nose. They then threatened Saravanan to open his e-wallet and transfer money to their bank account. He transferred 4,000 to the account and escaped from them. After reaching home and taking treatment at a private hospital in Panaiyur, he lodged a complaint with Kanathur police station.Police are tracing the phone number to which the money had been transferred. They are yet to arrest the culprits.
