Teen shot while confronting thief in New Hampshire, police say

A teenager was shot in New Hampshire while confronting a man whom he saw committing a theft in Claremont, according to police.Claremont police said the shooting happened at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday on Front Street.According to police, the teenager was heading to work and walking to his car when he saw a man stealing items from another vehicle.The teen confronted the suspect and a physical altercation ensued. During the altercation, 24-year-old Jared Strickland, of Claremont, fired multiple rounds from a stolen gun that was in his possession, according to police.”He was taken into custody. And since that time, detectives have executed a number of search warrants, collected additional evidence, and we anticipate that more arrests and more charges are imminent,” Claremont police Chief Brent Wilmot said.One of the rounds hit the teenager in the left shoulder, who was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Police said the teenager is in stable but serious condition.Police said they found the gun that was used in the shooting and a duffle bag that had a number of stolen items inside.Strickland was charged with robbery, first-degree assault, criminal mischief, theft, falsifying physical evidence and receiving stolen property.
