The best Black Friday deals for gamers LIVE: all the biggest PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC sales this week

Refresh

Are Black Friday deals any good so far?

Retailers can stick a Black Friday label on any old discount they choose, but I’ve been noticing that 2023’s Black Friday deals feel a little more substantial than they have done in previous years. From games to accessories, many of the record low prices we saw in 2022 have already been beaten in this year’s sale. Not to mention the console bundles popping up everywhere (we got nothing of the sort last year).

I was glad to find my musings backed up by Adobe – I’ve just dug up this report from October, where the media company has forecasted that Black Friday deals will peak at 35% off this year. That’s the discount rate for toys, but electronics are still set to hit an average of 30% off. Adobe lists those as record discounts so, yes, things are looking good so far.

PSA: Amazon is offering a price promise on its Black Friday deals

In case you missed it earlier in the week, Amazon has announced that it will be offering a price promise on its Black Friday deals this year. That means that any item with the official ‘Black Friday Deal’ badge listed is eligible for a price difference refund should that total cost drop again between now and December 4. That’s comforting, considering I’ve noticed incremental price changes on Amazon’s discounts in the last few years, sometimes going up and down in a matter of minutes.

Deal Alert! Sony DualSense PS5 controller | £59.99 £38.99 at Amazon

Oooft, sticking with our UK theme for this morning, any PS5 players out there should really take a look at this £38.99 sale price on the DualSense controller at Amazon. That’s the cheapest it’s ever been, even beating July’s previous record low by an extra quid! That’s perfect for gifting and making sure you always have a charged gamepad on hand. Other retailers aren’t quite keeping up with this offer. Argos has given it a good go and currently as a £42.99 price, and John Lewis is your next best bet at £44.99.

Buy it if:

✅ You want haptic feedback and trigger resistance
✅ You need to replace a launch model DualSense
✅ You aren’t interested in the DualSense Edge

Don’t buy it if:

❌ You want the extra features of the DualSense Edge (currently £209 at Currys)

Shhh the US is still sleeping

It’s still early morning time for the US, so I thought I’d take a moment to show off some additional extras for our UK readers. This is a competitive time of year, so retailers are always looking to sweeten the deal – even if they’re price matching each other. It’s worth keeping an eye out for freebies even when you’ve found the same deal everywhere on the web – these are all the additional extras I’ve spotted so far.

  • Amazon: the usual Prime free shipping applies here – but it’s not to be taken lightly, especially as delivery times are often the first thing we see slip when a deal gets popular
  • Argos: regularly offers additional discounts on accessories but is also guaranteeing that Black Friday prices won’t go lower before January 1 for extra peace of mind. Look out for the green Price Promise badge.
  • Currys: you can get up to five months of Apple TV+, Arcade, Music, and Fitness+ for free with all tech this Black Friday
  • John Lewis: I love John Lewis for its free guarantees – something not all retailers offer, these span from two years for most tech up to five years for some TVs and appliances.
  • Very: There are fewer incentives here, but Very is offering free standard delivery and free returns.

Who’s already live?

We’ve still got three days to go before Black Friday itself, but we’ve all done this dance a few times before. We know that retailers are launching their official Black Friday deals already – and many of these prices will remain unchanged on the big day. However, there are still some discounts we’re waiting for.

In the US, big names like Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop and Target have all taken their offers to the shelves but Walmart is still holding off. Head to the Black Friday preview page on Walmart and you’ll see these offers don’t actually go live until November 22 (at 3pm ET). You don’t need to wait though

I’ve been checking through, and found that Best Buy is already beating Walmart to it. You’ll find many of these games and accessories at Best Buy listed with Walmart’s advertized Black Friday prices – so if you want to get in ahead of the crowds I’d recommend heading over to the big yellow label today.

Elsewhere, we’re seeing deals available from Dell, HP, Newegg and B&H Photo.

In the UK, Black Friday deals are go at Currys, Argos, Very, Amazon, Box, John Lewis, and Game.
