SHELBURNE – The town has partnered with Eversource on the Main Streets energy efficiency initiative to offer up to 20% more savings for small business owners through Aug. 25.

In August, to help local small businesses reduce their energy costs and impact on the environment, the two entities came together as part of the Mass Save ® Community First Partnership program to get up to 90% savings through efficiency upgrades.

“The Main Streets initiative will make it easier for our local businesses and non-profits to learn about and take advantage of the energy-saving solutions that Eversource provides, many at little or no cost to the business owner,” said Cynthia Boettner, Shelburne’s Energy Efficiency Advocate.

Since Monday, Aug. 14, energy experts from Eversource-approved contractor Energy Resources have been in Shelburne and Buckland meeting with small commercial customers. These meetings have involved scheduling no-cost energy assessments. Deals for the upgrades end on Friday, Aug. 25.

The Main Streets program starts with a no-cost, no-obligation energy assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities for small businesses, such as new lighting, occupancy sensors, programmable thermostats, refrigeration controls, insulation, and more. Some improvements happen on the spot at no cost to the customer. More involved projects are scheduled for a future date.

“We’ve had great success growing the Main Streets program and bringing energy efficiency solutions to our communities,” said Eversource Vice President for Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility Tilak Subrahmanian. “This year we’re excited to build on our success and bring Main Streets to at least 60 communities across the commonwealth.”

One business that has taken advantage of this deal in previous years is Davenports’ Service Station. Owner Sarah Davenport explained that through the program, Eversource updated her canopy lights and Mobil sign which displays gas prices to L.E.D.s and added a timer on her cooler. After paying off the costs to do these upgrades, she said the electric bill went down about 60%.

Eversource has delivered postcards with more information about the program to Shelburne and Buckland businesses. For more information and to schedule a free assessment at a convenient time, businesses should contact Eversource’s contractor, Energy Resources, directly at dchomiak@energyresourcesusa.net. To schedule a no-cost, no-obligation assessment for a business, even if it is not a part of an official Main Streets partnership this year, business owners can visit eversource.com/mainstreets.

“As always, entities can receive a no cost, no obligation building energy assessment,” stated the press release. “However, the normal ‘up to 70% discount’ on certain energy-saving upgrades increases to ‘up to 90%’ during this period.  Renters and building owners can both benefit.”
