Three promoted in business and finance division

Northwestern’s business and finance division has announced three promotions

The business and finance division provides the services and support needed to advance academic and research excellence at the University. Its staff engages and partners with all areas of the University to manage resources and leverage financial capacity in alignment with programmatic and strategic initiatives.

Daniel Durack has been promoted to senior associate vice president for budget and planning. Since 2015, Durack has held several roles in the Office of Budget and Planning, most recently serving as the associate vice president for budget and planning. This promotion recognizes his expertise and contributions in steering Northwestern’s long-range planning and budget endeavors. Durack is a trusted financial advisor to University leadership and ensures financial resources are aligned in support of Northwestern’s strategic priorities.

Nicole Van Laan has been promoted to assistant vice president for finance. Van Laan steps into this new role with a distinguished track record, having served as Northwestern’s controller for the past eight years, prior to which she was an auditor at Deloitte. In her new capacity, Van Laan will lead crucial financial units, including accounting services, depository services, tax and regulatory services and treasury, driving efficient and effective financial reporting and operations for the University.

DeBorah Krueger has been promoted to executive director of finance and administration. In this newly established capacity, Krueger will serve functionally as chief of staff to Amanda Distel, vice president and chief financial officer, as well as overseeing the business operations within the division. With her background spanning 25 years across various facets of Northwestern’s operations, Krueger brings knowledge and strategic foresight that will help guide the University’s financial functions towards excellence.
