Transfer deadline day deals and reaction: Greenwood loaned to Getafe, Liverpool sign Gravenberch and reject Salah bid

Wrexham have smashed their transfer record to sign Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong, subject to EFL confirmation.

The 27-year-old joins Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and Millwall midfielder George Evans in moving to the League Two club on deadline day.

Neither club is commenting on the fee but it is understood around £500,000, plus add-ons, has been paid for Armstrong, who has signed a three-year deal at the SToK Cae Ras. He was under contract at Harrogate until 2025 but earlier this month tried to force through a move amid rumoured interest from Wrexham and MK Dons.

Harrogate claimed the 6ft 3in forward had made himself “unavailable for selection” when Simon Weaver’s side faced Doncaster Rovers on the opening day of the season.

He later returned to the team and has one goal to his name this term from three League Two starts, taking his overall record at Wetherby Road to 31 from 106 appearances in all competitions. Sixteen of those came last season.

On joining Wrexham, Armstrong said: “It is a really exciting club and a dream move. Everyone wants to be part of this project, and I feel really honoured to be part of it.”

The capture of Armstrong, son of former Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town striker Alun, will pep up an attack that has been sorely missing the injured Paul Mullin.

In his absence, Jake Bickerstaff has formed a promising partnership with previous record signing Ollie Palmer. But Sam Dalby and Billy Waters, who started the opening day defeat to MK Dons, have largely struggled to make an impact.

His registration went through too late to face Tranmere Rovers on Saturday. Harrogate, meanwhile, moved quickly to re-sign Josh March, the Stevenage striker who had a spell on loan in North Yorkshire during the 2020-21 season.
