Two Lexington police officers are lightly injured in a downtown incident

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – According to Lexington Police, a police vehicle was stolen and crashed downtown today in an incident that left two people with minor injuries.

Just after midday, police were dispatched to the area of ​​239 East High Street following a report of someone removing a manhole cover. Police got out with the suspect, who then assaulted an officer and fled in the officer’s police vehicle.

The suspect crashed the police vehicle at the intersection of High and Broadway.

One officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The other policeman was slightly injured but was not transported.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was also taken to hospital.

Lexington Police Lt. Dan Truex said the area should be cleared shortly.
