UCSF Health named as Vizient Top Performer for high-quality patient care

Vizient Inc. has named UCSF Health as a Top Performer for its high-quality patient care in the 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking.

This is the second year in a row that Vizient has recognized UCSF Health as a leader in health care quality. This year, UCSF Health ranked seventh among comprehensive academic medical centers, out of 116 medical centers that were evaluated in that cohort and 784 that the health care performance improvement company assessed overall.

The ranking is among several leading third-party assessments that recognize UCSF Health’s leadership in quality, safety and excellence in care. UCSF Health received an “A” safety rating, the highest grade, for its hospitals at Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay in The Leapfrog Group’s most recent reviews, and a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for its quality of care. UCSF Medical Center is consistently named among the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, and has achieved the gold standard “Magnet recognition” for nursing excellence for more than a decade.

Vizient conducts a yearly Quality and Accountability Ranking that measures safety, effectiveness, equity, efficiency, mortality, and patient-centeredness in care. The ranking includes data from the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
