We May Not Need Our Greatest Living Director to Save the Movies

Hello Pursuits readers, it’s Jim Gaddy. By this time next week, I’ll have been inside an actual movie theater for the first time since April 2022, when I laughed-cried-laughed through a screening of Everything Everywhere All at Once.

For practically my whole life, “going to the movies” was an event ripe with anticipation. But at some point, I just quit going. I can count on one hand the number of films I’ve seen in theaters in the past 10 years. It was all superhero stories, horror movies or kids’ stuff—none of which is my thing. And the pandemic pretty much wiped out whatever remaining inclination I had to sit in a dark theater with a bunch of strangers.
