Police were called to an incident Tuesday morning involving weapons at a church parish house. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 has confirmed the incident involved a priest.This all unfolded on Buttercup Road in Butler Township. Police described the situation as a mental health issue and said it was resolved peacefully, with no shots fired. They do say several guns were removed from the house.The Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese said this situation at a residence at Saint Conrad Church of All Saints parish involved a priest, who is dealing with a “challenging ongoing medical condition.”Neighbors told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the priest involved was undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Neighbors say he is usually kind and friendly, but had been dealing with some serious complications over the last few weeks. “We’ve known him for quite some time,” said Brian Gilliland. “He’s been fine up until about two weeks ago, he just wasn’t himself.” A statement from the Diocese of Pittsburgh said the following: “We are aware of an incident that occurred early this morning at a residence at Saint Conrad church of All Saints parish in Butler. Although police are still investigating, we know that they were called to the residence for a wellness check related to a priest who has been on a leave of absence for health reasons. We are grateful that police were able to help to transport the priest by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation and continued treatment. The priest has been dealing with a challenging ongoing medical condition. We are praying for him, and for police and public safety professionals who provided such great service this morning.” At this point, it’s unclear if any charges will be filed. The priest was taken to an area hospital for continued treatment and evaluation.
